The CD slipcases sold out in just over 30 minutes. Vinyl and CDs on Bowie’s online store and Rhino’s webstore sold out in minutes, as did the reissued vinyl slipcases for the complete set. The 12-song set had been widely bootlegged previously, having been issued as a promotional CD by Virgin in 1999, meaning that many fans already owned the set.įurthermore, the recordings of ‘Seven’, ‘Something In The Air’, and ‘The Pretty Things Are Going To Hell’ had been officially released in the UK in July 2000, on the third CD single of ‘Seven’.ĭespite these issues, At The Kit Kat Klub (Live New York 99) sold out faster than any of the other BLA releases, although server crashes on the Warner webstore Dig meant that many fans were left frustrated and disappointed with the process. The missing songs were ‘Drive-In Saturday’, ‘Cracked Actor’, ‘Ashes To Ashes’, ‘Repetition’, and ‘Rebel Rebel’.
The only songs unique to At The Kit Kat Klub were ‘Stay’ and ‘I’m Afraid Of Americans’, while Something In The Air contained versions of ‘Word On A Wing’, ‘Drive-In Saturday’, ‘Repetition’, ‘I Can’t Read’, and ‘Rebel Rebel’.Īt The Kit Kat Klub was not the full concert, and contained just 12 of the 17 songs performed. The set was markedly similar to the previous album in the series, Something In The Air (Live Paris 99), which was recorded with the same musicians just one month earlier. It was recorded and filmed, and broadcast in December 1999 on. The concert was recorded in New York on 19 November 1999 in front of an invite-only audience of fans and contest winners. The album announced on 17 March 2021, and went on sale two days later, ahead of its 2 April release date.
CD3 features stripped down mixes, most of them overdubbed them with acoustic guitars. The final instalment in the Brilliant Live Adventures (1995-1999) series of live albums was At The Kit Kat Klub (Live New York 99). The versions of You've Got A Habit Of Leaving/Baby Loves That Way/Let Me Sleep Beside You/Conversation Piece/Shadow Man/Your Turn To Drive were previous released as bonus tracks or B-sides of Heathen-era singles 'The London Boys' appeared incomplete as two excerpts on the internet. Except for the track listing, the differences between the officially released album and the leak (including 'Liza Jane' and 'In The Heat Of The Morning', here delegated to CD2 as extras) are minor roughly half of the album is identical except for the mastering.ĬD2 consists mostly of remixes by Tony Visconti. They were either dropped from the definite Toy tracklist, or, more likely, replaced with 'Karma Man' and 'Can't Help Thinking About Me' for this official release-both were no part of the leak and are the only two tracks on the album with different mixing credits. The leak featured 'Uncle Floyd' and 'Afraid', two tracks that would end up on the next album Heathen ('Uncle Floyd' being retitled to 'Slip Away'). An early mix of the album was leaked to a few fans in 2006 (when I published my review) and became more widely available in 2011. Toy was scheduled to be appear in 2001, but delayed several times and ultimately shelved. The album's official release was in November 2021, as part of the Brilliant Adventure box set.
